How to cancel Shopify
Shopify keeps billing until you deactivate the store — closing the admin tab or uninstalling apps changes nothing. There's also a cheap Pause plan if you're not ready to lose the storefront.
Quick answer
admin.shopify.com/settings/plan — log in and follow the steps below. Cancelling takes about five minutes.
Step-by-step
- Log in to your store admin and open Settings → Plan.
- Click Deactivate store (or Pause plan to keep the store at a reduced fee).
- Pick a reason, enter your password, and confirm.
- Cancel any third-party app subscriptions separately — some bill outside Shopify.
What happens after you cancel
The storefront goes offline immediately and billing stops. Shopify retains your store data for a period, so reactivating later restores it.
Worth knowing
- Custom domains bought through Shopify renew separately — transfer or cancel them too.
- Export your products and orders (Settings → Export) before deactivating; you can't browse the admin afterward.
What the charge looks like
Shopify typically bills $25–$500 per month, and its renewal emails come from shopify.com. BeforeItBills detects those emails automatically and warns you 7 days before each charge — so the next renewal never sneaks past you.
