How to cancel Max (HBO)

Max (formerly HBO Max) is sold direct, through app stores, and through TV/internet providers — and you must cancel wherever you signed up. The 'Subscription' section of your Max account names your billing source.

Quick answer

max.com/accountlog in and follow the steps below. Cancelling takes about five minutes.

Step-by-step

  1. Sign in at max.com and open your profile → Subscription.
  2. Check the billing source shown there.
  3. Billed by Max directly: click Manage subscription → Cancel subscription and confirm.
  4. Billed through Apple/Google: cancel in your device's subscription settings.
  5. Billed through a provider (Comcast, DirecTV, etc.): cancel in that provider's account portal.

What happens after you cancel

Access continues until the end of the current billing cycle. Watch history and profiles persist on the account.

Worth knowing

  • Annual plans renew for a full year at a time — set a warning well before the renewal date, because there's no partial-year refund.

What the charge looks like

Max (HBO) typically bills $9–$20 per month, and its renewal emails come from max.com. BeforeItBills detects those emails automatically and warns you 7 days before each charge — so the next renewal never sneaks past you.
